Another Division is about to come under the purview of Kolkata Police’s jurisdiction as stated in a circular dated June 23, 2017. The new division will include five police stations- Pragati Maidan, Purba Jadavpur, Panchasayar, Anandapur and Kolkata Leather Complex. The proposed “East Division” would take the number of divisions to nine.
Kolkata Police said the new division is being created by reorganizing the eight existing divisions. At present, the state government is assessing the financial implications of creating the new divisions.
