Eid ul-Fitr At Red Road

Eid ul-Fitr is the time of forgiveness and thanking Allah for helping people to complete their spiritual fasting. The festival begins with morning prayers (Namaz). Muslims in Kolkata mainly gather at Nakhoda Mosque and Red Road to offer prayers in the morning of Eid. After that, they visit friends and families to exchange greetings, gifts and pleasantries.

Hon’ble Chief Minister of West Bengal Mamata Banerjee graced the Eid ul-Fitr celebrations at Red Road in the morning of 26th June, 2017. She said, “We all stand united, no one can break us. There are times when one has to show courage and conviction. We are ‘Insaan’ first, Hindus, Muslims or Christians later.” The occasion was attended by Mayor of Kolkata Sovan Chatterjee, and several other dignitaries. Police Commissioner Rajeev Kumar along with other senior officers of Kolkata Police looked after security arrangements making sure peace prevailed. People in thousands offered their prayers at Red Road.
