Chhath Puja celebrations begin amidst green norms, court order

A meeting was held at Rabindra Sarovar attended by Soumitra Mohan, IAS, Additional Chief Secretary (Health), local Councillor Baishanna Chatterjee, OC Lake, officials and engineers from KMC and KMDA, representatives from the Chhath Puja Committee to discuss issues related to its celebration keeping in mind the Calcutta High Court orders and various restrictions imposed by the same.

KMDA and KMC shall ensure provisioning of all required infrastructures including sufficient lighting, water, placement of over 100 large garbage bins, protection barriers and videography of the event.

Puja Committee members have been requested to sufficiently publicise among devotees to not throw external objects into the pond including flowers and earthen lamps. They have been strictly advised against carrying any firecrackers, music systems or plastic bags inside the park.

Sufficient volunteers from the Puja Committee, local police and KMDA will be deployed on October 26, 27 for ensuring the above including regular cleaning and assisting the devotees. Enough flex and banners shall also be put up for better awareness.

The administration wants Chhath Puja celebrations in compliance with the court order without compromising on the environment protection norms for the Sarovar.
