It is believed that children between the ages of 5 and 9 years are the most impressionable and traits that are learned by them in this tenderage have a life-long bearing on their approach to various perspectives as long as they live.
Keeping this in mind, the Kolkata Police has been contemplating on introducing a compact course as part of the school curriculum. They believe that this move will ensure more awareness among citizens in the future. The Protector took to the streets to ask around about their take. Excerpts:
Amartya Saha, Assistant Professor –
“Every student of today will be a grown adult tomorrow.
I think, incorporating traffic rules and regulations in the curriculum area commendable move as I believe it will make better citizens in the future. Every student of today will be a grown-up adult tomorrow, driving on the streets of Kolkata and it will be of immense help to them then and even if they are not driving, the need to know about the traffic rules and regulation will always come secondary to driving.
Sudarshana Chakraborty, Student –
“This initiative should be taught in offices”.
I do believe in the necessity of being aware of the traffic rules and regulations but I don’t necessarily believe that it should only be taught to children or in schools for that matter. This initiative should be taught in offices and other workplaces for it to become more efficient.
Sofia Sen, Student–
“the knowledge of traffic rules will come in use to ensure security to children.”
I think it is absolutely necessary more now than ever before as more and more families have working parents. With Both parents out throughout the day, most children go to their schools alone and in order to do so, they cross many busy junctions where knowledge of traffic rules will be very handy to ensure their own security.
Akash Makal, Student–
“The chances of them becoming lenient about traffic laws will decrease substantially.”
This initiative must be taken up aswe replicate or we get influenced by our childhood behaviours throughout our entire life. Thus, learning about traffic rules and regulations at an early age would surely benefit them in the long run. The chances of them becoming lenient about traffic laws will decrease substantially.
Tuhina Mondal, Student-
“I believe that this would be counterproductive.”
I don’t believe this is necessary, on the contrary, I think this would be counter-productive. Students are already busy with huge curriculum and they might lose interest in the traffic laws altogether. There are numerous laws in India And to focus only on the traffic aspect is insufficient and gives only partial exposure to the totality of things.
Ritoban Basu, Student-
“It will also engrain a sense of discipline in the students.”
I think initiating such a move will be beneficial to the country as a whole. The future citizens would know which rules to follow and why they should follow it. It will also engrain a sense of discipline in the student and make them aware of the nature of the world subsequently.
The Protector found that the city is divided on this particular issue with people appreciating this initiative on one hand while others finding it hard to assess its worth.
