The Maharashtra Government has transferred or promoted as many as 84 IPS Officers in a major reshuffle in the police establishment. The transfer order was issued on July 28,2018. Vivek Phansalkar took overcharge as Commissioner of Police, Thane from Param Bir Singh.
A 1989 batch officer from Nagpur, Phansalkar was earlier posted as ADG (Maharashtra) – Anti Corruption Bureau. He had earlier served as Additional Commissioner of Police (Crime) with the ThanePolice in 2008. “This is a huge responsibility and comes with its own challenges. I will do my bestand continue the good work of my predecessors,” Phansalkar said in apress interaction. Parambir Singhwas transferred as Additional Director General (Law & Order) inthe recent order.
Phansalkar’s first posting was as Additional Superintendent of Police, Akola. He also served as Superintendent of Police in Wardha and Parbhani before getting his first posting in a city commissionerate as DCP in Nashik. Phansalkar has also served as Director (Vigilance) for the Cotton Corporation of India. In Mumbai, he served as Joint Commissioner of Police (Traffic) and Joint Commissioner of Police(Administration) before being transferred as the Chief of the Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad(ATS).
Nagpur’s top cop K. Venkatesham replaced Rashmi Shukla as Commissioner of Police, Pune. During his tenure at Nagopur, Venkatesham had introduced an integrated multi-agency counselling centre “Bharosa Cell’ to redress grievances of women. He had also formed a special SIT to probe cases of land grabbing and resolved more than 2,000 complaints.
Rashmi Shukla, the outgoing Pune Police Commissioner, was the second woman to hold the post. The Buddy Cops, Police Kaka and CitySafe schemes for IT professionals, students and public at large, were launched by her. She created a record of sorts by taking the highest number of action against the organised crime syndicates in the State under MCOCA and MPDA.
Among the promotions effected, Sholapur SP Viresh Prabhu is appointed Additional Ccommissioner of Police (Traffic), Mumbai. DCP Manoj Sharma- Mumbai Zone-1 is promoted and appointed as Additional CP (Western Region), while SP – Pune (Rural) – Suvez Haq is posted as Deputy IG of Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS)in Mumbai.
Sandip Patil, SP – Satara district,will take over charge as Pune – SP(Rural).
Special IG of Aurangabad – Milind Bharambe has been transferred and appointed Special IG (Law & Order) Mumbai. IPS Officer, Prakash Mutyal, serving as IG of SRPF at Nagpur, will succeed Bharambe in Aurangabad.
Similarly, DCP – Pune City, B G Gaykar, has been promoted and posted as Additional Commissioner of Police, Nagpur City. SP (CID), Nagpur- S B Rokde has been promoted and posted as DIG(Anti-Corruption Bureau), Mumbai.
DCP Zone II, Nagpur City, Rakesh Ola will take charge as Superintendent of Police – Nagpur(Rural) in place of Shailesh Balkawde, who has been transferred to naxal-affected Gadchiroli district as SP.
Ravindra G Kadam, Joint Commissioner of Police in Pune, has been transferred to Nagpur in a similar position, according to the order. Similarly, IPS Officer, S T Bodkhe, Joint Commissioner of Police in Nagpur, has been shifted to Pune in a similar capacity.
