It is overwhelming for us to note that The Mumbai Protector magazine, through its content, has evoked a very positive response from its readers.
The global impact the coronavirus pandemic has had in the past few months has been devastating. No one would have envisioned the entire world to be brought to its knees like this. The total count in India has crossed the 2 lakh threshold. Maharashtra, the most-affected State in the country is almost touching 78 thousand. The good news is that a little over a lakh patients in the country have recovered from the virus.
As we focus on the stellar role the Indian Police have been playing during these difficult times, we cannot help but, with folded hands, say, “Thank you, Men in Uniform”. Closer to home, we are indeed indebted to the Maharashtra State Police for they have proved themselves, time and again, why they are named as the best police force in the country. They have had a very tough time these past few months. They have been left scarred by the pandemic. Having been on the frontline, and continuing to do so, has affected their health, morale and confidence. With over 2556 police personnel testing positive with COVID-19, and more than 24 deaths among their ranks as on June 4, 2020, they are still raring to go; the passion in them to serve and protect has not diminished.
Our hearts go out to the families of the police personnel who have lost their loved ones. We pray that they are comforted and be strengthened to face the days ahead with courage; the same courage which their beloved family member showed during this great trial.
In other major developments, Shri Param Bir Singh, became the 31st Commissioner of Police, Mumbai. He replaced Sanjay Barve who completed his tenure and retired from Force. Singh, a 1988-batch IPS officer, was posted as the Director General (DG) of Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) before he was appointed the Mumbai Police Commissioner.
This issue of the Mumbai Protector includes a brief interaction with the Maharashtra State Security Cooperation (MSSC) DG, D Kanakaratnam (IPS) who shares his eventful journey in various postings across the country, and the role MSSC is playing in the State.
Economic offences are some of the upcoming cases registered under the belt of crime in the city. Mumbai City Joint Commissioner of Police, Economic Offences Wing, Rajvardhan Sinha, gives a glimpse into the high-profile cases and how this Wing has been dealing with white-collar criminals.
