Strong relationships of mutual trust between police agencies and the communities they serve are critical to maintaining public safety and effective policing. Police officials rely on the cooperation of community members to provide information about crime in their neighbourhood and to work with the police to devise solutions to crime and law and order. Similarly, community members’ willingness to trust the police depends on whether they believe that police actions reflect community values and incorporate the principles of procedural justice and legitimacy.
This Christmas, police officers from Thane and Navi Mumbai Commissionerate decided to educate the citizens on the importance of wearing a mask to prevent the spread of the virus. The local sleuths, about a hundred of them, along with ND Creation, dressed as Santa Claus and distributed more than 1,50,000 masks at about 400 road junctions.
“Wearing a mask is must to avoid the COVID-19 spread in the country. Several awareness campaign is being carried out by the State Government and the local police to educate the people on the importance of washing hands, maintaining social distance, and wearing a mask. On the occasion of Christmas, and on New Year’s Eve, we distributed masks to the locals and educated them on its importance,” said a police officer attached to this campaign.
The State Police also stepped up their efforts in conducting blood donation camps to replenish the shortage of blood arising from the COVID-19 pandemic’s demand for more blood due to the new plasma therapy used to cure infected people.
“The State is facing a shortage of blood supply chiefly because people are avoiding hospitals and clinics to donate blood due to the coronavirus outbreak, out of fear of catching the infection. Historically, Maharashtra always has sufficient supply and stock of blood. The current stock in the State would last only for the next five to six days. We need more supply as pending operations and surgeries (delayed due to COVID-19) are now taking place across the State,” said Rajesh Tope, Health Minister of Maharashtra.
The State’s Blood Transfusion Council has cautioned about limited availability of blood across Maharashtra. I appeal to people to come forward to donate blood and save lives, appealed the Minister.
