IPS Jayjeet Singh, who has made a name for himself in the police force, has been appointed as the Thane Police Commissioner. He succeeded Vivek Phansalkar, who is now Managing Director, Maharashtra State Police Housing and Welfare Corporation Ltd. Jayjeet Singh took the reins after the post has been lying vacant for three weeks. Prior to his present posting, Jayjit Singh was the ATS Chief. Singh is known for being calm but aggressive when need be. Citizens of Thane district and the Thane Commissionerate staff are happy with Singh’s appointment as he is an officer who gives topmost priority to duty.
Jayjeet Singh is a 1990 batch IPS officer. In October 2020, Jayjeet Singh, then Additional Director General of Police in the Bribery Prevention Department, was transferred and given a new posting as Chief, Maharashtra State Anti-Terrorism Squad. On May 4, 2021, Thane Police Commissioner Vivek Phansalkar was transferred and given a new posting as Managing Director, Maharashtra Police Housing Board. Since then, a potential name keeps coming up, that of Jayjit Singh, to replace Phansalkar. He finally took over as Thane Police Commissioner. A ceremonial parade was organised at the Thane City Police Commissionerate to welcome him.
