The West Bengal government’s road safety initiatives are bearing fruits as the accident percentage has gone down by 35 per cent in Kolkata alone. The Chief Minister of West Bengal, Mamata Banerjee, revealed that a total of 407 people had died in road accidents under the Kolkata Police jurisdiction in 2016. But after the commencement of the SDSL project, the number of deaths has come down to 294 in 2018. Compared to 2016, in 2018 the percentage of deaths has gone down by 17 while and the accident percentage has dipped by 27. Odisha and Jharkhand Police are also following Kolkata Police model under the same tag.
