Criminal Investigation Department (CID), West Bengal, in an attempt to widen its intelligence network is planning to recruit Volunteers who will share information about local incidents and happenings. They can also share information about the local hoodlums and movements of any suspicious person in the locality. Attempt is being made to collect and update information in course of surveillance, detection and investigation. CID has developed Task Management System- a mobile based tasking system for Civic Volunteers for the said purpose.
It is said, information is power. Whoever holds the most information has the most control. Governments and enforcement agencies around the world make every effort to acquire as much information and data as possible to stay a step ahead. This Task Management System has been developed for getting real time picture and passing instructions with immediate effect so that no incident can crop up and create any law and order problem. Task Management System works in an integrated manner which addresses various issues and problems.
Sharing of information helps the cops to take preventive measures to reduce crimes in the state. These CVs would be the eyes and ears of the police at the field level. They would provide real time updates about criminal activities and situational status. In today’s busy world, people are looking towards more efficient management of tasks. To reduce work pressure and time consumed, companies and organisations are adopting automation technologies.
The Task Management System has two parts – one is the dashboard and another is the mobile application. Additional Director General (CID) Dr. Rajesh Kumar said “ The system has already started functioning in several districts, police districts and commissionerates and we are in the process of implementing it in the remaining places and units.” The dashboard is an all in one platform for allocating tasks to CVs and viewing the relayed information which can be accessed by specially designated supervisory officers. He or she can instruct the concerned entities according to the information being received from the civic volunteers on the field. It has provision for building criminal profiles according to the data received, indicating relative performances of police stations in utilizing CVs, their attendance, predictions, and generates periodic reports and statements. Moreover, the dashboard can be customized according to the layout choice of the supervising officer for his or her convenience. The application which is installed in the phone or tablet of the CV has several features. It notifies the user of any upcoming tasks, shows performance statistics, and has an integrated instant messenger; can broadcast emergency messages and attendance registration.
