Dear Readers,

Greetings!

I feel delighted to present to the readers the second issue of Karnataka Protector magazine published by New Media. The inaugural issue of the Karnataka Protector magazine evoked an exceptional response and the launch of the magazine was covered by media across the country. The issue contains a report on the media coverage.

The expectations of people from police have been changing with time and it is a challenge to meet these expectations. Involvement of people in the operational work of the police and sensitizing constables and police officers about the changing expectations simplifies the task though. The police- public partnership empowers communities and helps them in redressal of their grievances. For the police, good police – public connect enables easy detection of crimes and effective patrolling. It means better flow of information, decrease in police – citizen conflicts and paves way for work satisfaction for the police.

Anticipating the needs and emerging challenges for Karnataka police, a slew of initiatives and proactive measures by Karnataka state police such as ‘The Police Gruha 2020’ have proved to be truly visionary in nature. The article ‘Housing, Infrastructure initiatives transform quality of life for Karnataka police’ provides a useful insight into the welfare developments for police personnel in the state. In an unusual historical quest M Nanjundaswami – IPS officer, on the ‘Chalukya Trail’ reveals a treasure house of information on early Kings of Karu Nadu which is astounding.

‘Police Reception Order’ which is a part of Karnataka government’s ‘JanaSnehi Police scheme’ is a path-breaking effort towards making the police more people friendly. The first woman DG & IGP of Karnataka state –Neelamani N. Raju, while seeking co-operation of the entire force to work together & face challenges shall continue with the initiatives of ‘new beat’ system and ’empowering constabulary’ in the Karnataka state police.

We hope that the contents of the magazine in English and Kannada would make an interesting read. The web version of the magazine is available on our website www.theprotector.in. We welcome feedback and contribution of any useful content from the readers.

Happy Reading !
