Dear Readers,

Let me take this opportunity to wish you all a Happy and Prosperous 2017. Kolkata Police did a remarkable job in handling mega festivals during

October when both Durga Puja and Diwali festivals were celebrated with great enthusiasm without any incident, which has brought fresh laurels for the city police force.

City police earned kudos from the Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, who had complemented the efcient work done by the police force during the

rst ever special Immersion Carnival of the selected large Durga idols on the prestigious Red Road in the city. It was a proud moment for the city police that the chief minister had appreciated the special arrangements made for the rst-ever such procession. As a rst experiment it was a 101 percent success, the Chief Minister has announced, and that, such programme would be repeated every year with the hope that it would draw the attention of a sizeable tourist population from both home and abroad. It was a brilliant decision of the Chief Minister to showcase the creative activities that are associated with the popular festival. Every single idol had its specialty which represents the thinking process of the organizers in the contemporary society.

The week-long Kolkata International Film Festival was an important cultural programme which brought key lm personalities from around the world particularly from China. It was completed with great enthusiasm when critically acclaimed international lms were screened in ten prestigious halls in the city.

There is no doubt that there are innumerable opportunities to attract tourists as more and more people are going to different places seeking to explore new ideas and such initiatives are well comparable with other programmes elsewhere in the world. The job of the city police has always been very challenging and its scope is enlarging steadily with the emerging situation in the expanding city. In tune with the changing horizons of the state, massive developmental programmes are now underway. As we have stepped into 2017 let us pledge for ensuring safety-security, growth and development for every citizen and in the process make people’s life easier, better and friendlier. Wish everyone well.

Happy reading,
