Dear Readers,
Greetings!
I feel elated to present to the readers the third issue of ‘The Karnataka Protector’ magazine published by New Media Group. It has been an overwhelming journey. We had the privilege and opportunity of associating with the law enforcement agencies and to provide insights into the working of the Karnataka police to the readers.
Karnataka state’s first woman DGP Neelamani N. Raju with her able leadership has lent sensitivity , drilled the importance of multitasking and chasing investigation to the last mile in the police department. The law & order situation has improved and crime scenario is in control.
The nation celebrated the 70th Republic day in the honor of the Constitution of India this year. It was heartening to witness ‘Republic Day’ parade at Rajpath, New Delhi. It marked several firsts and was an out and out display of women power, a reflection of changing times. The event clearly showcased the growing undiscriminating opportunities that the country provides to youngsters irrespective of their gender.
The all- women contingent of Assam Rifles created a history by participating for the first time in the Republic day parade. Lt. Bhavana Kasturi created a stir when she led an all- men contingent of India Army Service Cops. Capt. Bhavna Syal, a third generation officer in the armed forces, led the transportable satellite terminal’s contingent. Capt. Shikha Surabhi drew a loud applause from the audience as she became the first woman to perform bike stunts, alongside her male team mates as a part of daredevil, a major attraction every republic day. The naval contingent of 400 sailors was also led by a women, Lt. Ambika Sudhakaran.
At the DGP & IGP conference held at Kevadia, Gujarat in December 2018, the prime minister urged the police forces across the country to be vigilante in countering the dark forces of radicalization to engender trust among all the communities of the nation. He also stressed on the importance of inter- state coordination in tackling crime. The prime minister praised the police forces for their success in countering terrorism and limiting it to a small geographic area of the country.
“Capacity building in the subject of cyber security is the need of the hour. A gender diverse police force will be more equitable and approachable,” said the prime minister. Cyber Coordination Centre, envisaged as an umbrella platform that will help law enforcement agencies in coordinating their efforts to solve all cyber crimes and incidents is a step in that direction.
On the ‘Police Commemoration Day’ the prime minister dedicated the ‘National Police Memorial’ to the police personnel, paramilitary forces and the National Disaster Relief forces(NDRF) for their work. In a physically demanding professions like that of police services sound health and high fitness levels are a must. The article on ‘ belly fat ‘ delves into the subject and tries to nail the issue.
The Karnataka Protector and its web version (www.theprotector.in) has been working towards stressing on community policing initiatives through the contents of the magazine. We are in the process of taking a step forward and launching ‘Protector TV’ a digital foray for a wider reach.
Happy Reading !
