Dear Readers,

The world is still entangled in COVID-19’s fatal grip. We would not have anticipated that we would be tussling with it even after the first official patient, known as ‘Patient Zero’ was identified on December 10, 2019, in Wuhan, China. India has now become the second-most affected nation, after the USA. The latest statistics as on October 15, 2020, is over 73 lakh confirmed cases, with over 8 lakh active cases.

Maharashtra still holds the highest number of cases with over 15 lakh positive cases registered, and over nearly 2 lakh active cases.

Despite the number of affected police personnel standing at over 25 thousand, we have seen the unrelenting and determined spirit of the Maharashtra Police to continue to do their duty, amidst the storm, to protect the citizens. 260 of them have lost their brave battle against the virus.

The various articles in this issue of The Mumbai Protector will take you through the gamut of services done by the police force, medical professionals, healthcare workers and good Samaritans of Mumbai to make life easier for the citizens during these testing times. Indeed, citizens have been protected by a safety net by the True Protectors of the State amidst the worst scenario of fear, dread and anxiety they have been experiencing since the start of the year.

Apart from the present crisis, there are many hurdles faced by the citizens of the country and the State daily. White-collar criminality has become a global phenomenon with the advance of commerce and technology. We will give you a walkthrough about different such crimes in different professions. Another very crucial cause of concern is how safe do women feel? This is why women safety is one of the top-most priorities of the Police Department. Several initiatives have been taken by the State Police to tackle crime against women.

This issue also includes a brief interaction with the Director General – Maharashtra State Security Cooperation – D. Kanakaratnam (IPS) detailing his journey of policing as well as the development of MSSC.

We, at The Mumbai Protector, have always made it our priority to ensure that we highlight and inform our readers of the various consistent community policing initiatives undertaken by the police to strengthen police-public bond. All these measures find resonance time and again in the content – be it through print, or its digital version – www.theprotector.in.

As we continue fighting this virus, we at New Media, would like to encourage our readers to continue to obey all the safety protocols and guidelines laid down by the government, which is for our benefit and the society at large. May we emerge victorious as a nation!

Happy Reading.
